Jobs in Portland: Job Title: Geographical Information Systems Manager Summary of Position (general responsibility and purpose): Responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) principles and practices in broad areas. Uses advanced techniques, theory precepts, and practices in the GIS field and related sciences and disciplines. A lead position, this level includes technical direction over a group of GIS specialists and technicians and/or functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced GIS concepts. Coordinates technical and administrative GIS activities with those of other disciplines and other departments in the company participating on common projects. Educational/Skill/Specialization Requirements: The minimum requirements for the position are a Bachelor of Science in GIS, land surveying, geography, or computer science, at least five years of GIS specific experience and hold a valid driver's license. Experience with the surveying, architectural and engineering industry as well as the ability to develop and implement a web based GIS system is desired. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: As the GIS Manager, serves as a technical specialist, staff advisor, and consultant to the GIS specialty for varying types of projects, equipment, or program functions: • Responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of GIS principles and practices in broad areas. • Coordinates technical and administrative GIS activities with those of their disciplines and other departments in the company participating on common projects. • Serves as a technical specialist, staff advisor and consultant to the GIS specialty for varying types of projects. • GIS activities to include creating spatial feature, developing databases, data conversions, and performing spatial analyses. • Mentors less experienced GIS personnel, identifies training needs, and offers advice and knowledge. • Prepares proposals for potential projects. • Participates in marketing activities. • Provides technical support of project work.
