Local Jobs in Portland: The Membership Outreach Team at the Gifford Pinchot Task Force is seeking a teammate to help us support the biological diversity and communities of the Northwest through conservation and restoration of forests, rivers, fish, and wildlife. The Task Force is a locally-based non-profit well known for winning a campaign to stop a 3,000 acre copper mine proposal near Mount St. Helens, stopping all ancient forest logging in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest for the last 14 years, working to restore wolves to Washington, and successfully campaigning for the removal of Hemlock Dam. Our focus is using a collaborative approach to emphasize restoration-based employment and ecological preservation. Our Membership Outreach Team's primary focus is to raise funds, and in addition inspire potential activists, and recruit members and volunteers for the Gifford Pinchot Task Force. We need energetic, idealistic people with strong communication skills, a proven work ethic, a passion for forest issues, and a desire to work collaboratively to represent us door-to-door in the Portland metro area. You must be outgoing with a willingness to engage people and be able to fearlessly and professionally represent our organization in order to persuade people to financially support the work of our organization. Our team is different, relying on sincere, passionate communication rather than gimmicky sales techniques and high-pressure tactics to engage and inspire, rather than pressure, the public to support our organization. We believe in collaboration and rewarding hard work, rather than the fear-based management that is too common in canvassing. In a time when many organizations are struggling with fundraising, our team grew our monthly donor program by 65% in 2009 and exceeded all of our fundraising goals. 2010 saw continued success, once again exceeding our fundraising goals by a large margin. This is an opportunity to use your skills to really have an impact at a local non-profit. Our team supplies a major portion of our program funding and we treat our fundraisers accordingly. This is the canvassing job where you will be welcomed and appreciated by all of the Task Force staff. You will have many opportunities to interact and learn from program staff in briefings and all-staff field trips to see first-hand the work you support. Special consideration will be offered to candidates who have a vehicle available for transportation to work sites. Mileage is reimbursed at IRS rates. You will: • Learn more about public lands conservation and restoration through team issue and project briefings as well as staff field trips. • Receive paid training and on-going support to learn to harness your natural skills and apply them to an important role in our organization. • Begin and end each work day knowing that your effort is appreciated and that the results of your work are vital to an important cause. Flexible schedule, 24-30 hrs per week, evenings required. Ideal for students. $10-11/hour to start, plus generous bonuses. We offer TEN paid holidays per year and paid vacation and medical leave time for all staff (almost immediately after hire!). Available hours are 3:00 pm to 9:30 pm, Mon-Fri.
